Koparki (Excavators), Jaworzno, Poland
“Koparki” (literally – excavators) near Jaworzno is the most popular diving spot in Poland. This is a defunct quarry, with two large – 15 meters or 50 feet tall – excavators submerged in turquoise water.
The story is, that when the quarry owners failed to cover their electricity bills, electricity was cut off, pumps removing water coming into the pit stopped, and there was no way to extract the excavators.
Today, diving here is made attractive by numerous artifacts remaining after quarry operation, but also new additions – such as shipwreck Wilhelm. Most important places are connected with guide wires.
Diving conditions differ significantly by the season, with best visibility in the winter, when there are only few divers. But the conditions are good enough the year around.
This is complemented by very well organized diving operation, with compressor, gear rental, new sheds for divers and even some accommodation options.
