104th anniversary of Polish Army Museum

In 1918, Poland won its independence after 123 years of occupation by the predecessors of today’s Russia, Germany, and Austria. Two years later, the Polish Army Museum was founded.

In April 2024, the museum staged an event to commemorate its 104th anniversary.

Outside of the official part, the reenactment groups attracted the most attention.

To me, it was an opportunity to confront images from movies and books with some real-life experience. And believe me, no book or movie can convey the sound wave created by firing a canon. And that was just one canon. Impossible to comprehend what the real battlefield is like.

But don’t think that only guns and canons can impress. We were treated to a seriously cool introduction to 10th-century swordsmanship, with live demonstrations culminating in a surprising full-blown charge on us, the spectators.
